What Is Appraisal?
Appraisal is a formal dispute resolution process included in most homeowner insurance policies. It applies only when the policyholder and the insurance company disagree on the value of the damages—not on coverage.
Is the Appraisal Award Binding? Yes. Once signed by two members of the panel, the Appraisal Award becomes binding and enforceable under the appraisal clause of your insurance policy. The insurance company is contractually obligated to pay the amount determined in the award.
How It Works
You select an appraiser (ClaimMaster360 can serve as yours).
- The insurance company selects their own appraiser
- Both appraisers agree on a neutral umpire. At ClaimMaster360, we can serve as your licensed appraiser or neutral umpire, depending on your needs.
- The umpire is only involved if the appraisers cannot reach an agreement.
- Two of the three panel members (either both appraisers, or one appraiser and the umpire) must sign the final decision.
When to Use It
- Your claim was underpaid
- Your damages were partially denied
- The insurer’s estimate is far below your contractor’s scope
- You want a neutral third-party resolution
